Match Officials expenses

In the League newsletter dated 22nd March we ran an article on the proposed increase in Match Officials' expenses and invited responses, especially from officials themselves. All the responses have been gathered in a Word document and can be viewed by clicking the link below.

I have personally spoken to a couple of referees since the article was published and it does appear that many have interpreted this as a poor attempt at veiled criticism of match officials. I reiterate again - it was not.

The intention was purely to highlight the fact that our member clubs have been regularly expressing concern this season at the amount of money they are paying to cover the cost of match officials for their games. As the League Media Officer, and with the agreement of the League Management Committee, I felt it was an issue of sufficient importance to justify an article in the newsletter, and that is why I wrote it. The intention was always to present a balanced view and hopefully by publishing the comments in the document below we have done precisely that.
